Welcome to the Dahl Class Page.
Our Class Teacher is Mrs Maple.
Did you know we are called Dahl Class after the author Roald Dahl? We have really enjoyed reading some of his books in class including 'Fantastic Mr Fox', 'The Enormous Crocodile' and 'Esio Trot.'
Shepreth Wildlife Park
On Tuesday 25th April, Year 1 went on the train to Shepreth Wildlife Park as part of our topic 'On Safari'. We saw lots of different animals such as a Red Panda, a Tiger and Meerkats. We also had the opportunity to touch some of the different animals.
On Friday mornings we have been enjoying Shared Maths with our grown ups. We have been showing them what we have learnt in our Maths lessons in the class and sharing some of our favourite activities with them.
We dressed up as our favourite characters for World Book Day. We also had the author Mini Grey come to visit. She is the author of the Traction Man stories.
This year the theme for Creative Fortnight is 'Under the Sea'. Look at the photos of what we have been up to!
Billy's Bucket - Talk for writing
In English we have learnt the story Billy's Bucket. To help us do this we created a story map and retold the story with actions. We then went on to use adjectives to describe the different animals Billy could see inside his bucket. After that we changed parts of the story to create our own versions.
Cheeky the Elf
In December we had an Elf visit us from the North Pole. He went back to the North Pole every night to report on the good choices we had been making throughout the day. Every morning we found Cheeky somewhere different in the classroom. Sometimes he was quite silly! We wrote our own diaries to record what he was doing.
Make a decoration afternoon
On the 1st December we made Christmas decorations with some of our parents. We made a Christmas tree out of lolly sticks, a Santa from a paper plate and Christmas stockings. We had a great afternoon!
We have learnt about Space. Mrs Holmes spotted a UFO above the school one Saturday morning. We investigated and wrote reports about what had happened. As part of our topic we also learnt about Neil Armstrong and designed our own moon buggies.
Our topic in Autumn term was Pirates. We enjoyed learning lots about pirates and especially Captain Blackbeard. In September, we had Pirate day. We all dressed up as a pirate and enjoyed watching and taking part in some drama activities. We even tried to speak like a pirate!
We love learning outdoors in Dahl class! We have been doing maths, phonics, writing and science activities outside. Look at some of the activities we have been doing.
We have been understanding the value of numbers. To help us understand this we have used tens frames, ordered numbers and found missing numbers. We have also been learning our number bonds to 10 and 20.
"Teaching is good. This is having a very positive impact on pupils' increasingly
successful learning.... Pupils feel safe because they know they are well cared for.
They behave well and have good attitudes to learning."
