Welcome to the Dahl Class Page.
Our Class Teacher is Mrs Maple.
Did you know we are called Dahl Class after the author Roald Dahl? We have really enjoyed reading some of his books in class including 'Fantastic Mr Fox', 'The Enormous Crocodile' and 'Esio Trot.'
Woburn Safari Park
As part of our topic On Safari, we went... on safari at Woburn! We had such a fantastic time seeing all of the animals, a monkey even climbed on top of our coach! We learnt about meerkats and porcupines and learnt more about what they eat which helped us with our Science topic.
Why a superhero creates slime
As part of our Superhero topic we learnt about explanation texts. We learnt that they explain how or why something happens. We retold the explanation text 'Why Superheroes create slime' using our text map. We then changed the text map to be about a different superhero power. Following that we identified the structure of the text and used this to make up our own explanation text for a topic of our own choice.
World Book Day
As part of World Book Day we dressed up as out favourite story characters. This included unicorns, superheroes, Matilda, Mary Poppins and fairy tale characters. During the week we also took part in lots of other exciting activities. In Year One we walked to David's book shop and spent our £1 book tokens. We also had the author Julia Jarman in to visit us. She read us some of her stories and showed us how she wrote the different stories.
Forest School Fortnight
From the 4th February - 15th February 2019 it has been Forest School Fortnight. We have taken part in such exciting activities which have involved us in using the environment to enhance our learning. We have taken part in activities such as a scavenger hunt, nest building, hot chocolate circle time, making ourselves invisible by using camouflage, enjoying a campfire and creating superhero lair's out of natural materials. We love learning outside!
Christmas in Dahl class started in when Snowy the Elf arrived all the way from the North Pole. We have enjoyed seeing where is he is every morning. We have also loved other activities such Make a Decoration morning, our Christmas assembly, parties and so much more.
Some of us in Dahl class have taken part in Forest School sessions. We have learnt lots of new skills and how to be safe in our wildlife area. We have been shown how to use tools safely to whittle a piece of wood, ways to collect different objects from our wildlife area and how to identify any hazards that there may be in the environment. We have also used our imaginations to tell stories, find dinosaur bones and to create or own model park. We are looking forward to continuing the sessions after Christmas.
Our 2017 Ofsted inspection commented - that we still provide good quality education & a stimulating & caring environment. Individual needs are well met & children quickly grow in confidence. There is a positive culture for safeguarding & pupils said that they feel happy & settled in school.
"I am amazing. Together we are magnificent!"
