Friday Afternoon Enrichment

At Icknield, our Key Stage One children are able to choose which clubs they would like to attend on a Friday afternoon. Last year, the children completed questionnaires about what clubs they had enjoyed and what clubs they would like to continue. After reading all of the responses, we listened to their feedback and organised the clubs. Currently the children have a variety of enrichment opportunities on offer including Art, Sewing, Maths, Traditional Games, Sports, Cookery, Forest School and Computing.

At Icknield, we have two Sports clubs, one for the Year 1 children and one for the Year 2 children. These are both run by sports coaches from Premier Sports and the children have loved learning lots of different sports skills such as shooting and aiming in archery, how to bat, field and bowl in cricket and how to dribble, pass and shoot in football.

Another popular club is Cookery Club, as the children have been able to make lots of delicious food including rocky road, blueberry pancakes and mackerel pate. At the end of each half term, we will be hosting a thank you cafe where the Cookery Club children can invite one adult of their choice to attend our Icknield thank you cafe to sample some of the food that they have made in their club.

In Maths Club, the children love playing games such as Shut the Box and Bingo which are both firm favourites in the club. Some children have recently designed their own version of Snakes and Ladders and we will soon be learning how to complete Sudokos.

The children in Art Club have so far enjoyed making pasta art, creating art out doors art through making faces with natural resources that they found such as leaves, twigs and grass and they have learnt weaving skills when making Harvest baskets. Our Art Club children are always extremely helpful in designing and helping to make some of the props and displays for the Christmas play which we are very grateful for.

Traditional Games is another much loved club where the children get to learn the rules and play traditional games both inside and outside. So far, the children have enjoyed playing Tiddlywinks, Hopscotch and Whats the Time Mr Wolf.

We are very fortunate at Icknield that we have six, Level 3 Forest School trained members of staff. Two of which run a Forest School Club for Year 1 and 2. So far the Forest Club childen have been spotted investigating exploding rainbow volcanoes in the nature area, they have been on scavenger hunts and played leaf bingo and they have created art using sticks based on the book 'Stickman' by Julia Donaldson. The children are great at knowing what the rules of Forest School are and they always look forward to what fun they will be having each week. Last week they loved exploring the wildlife area for ingredients to make a magic potion for a troll!

Whilst in Sewing Club, the children have already made a dream catcher and a paper pocket and are now onto using needles whilst they sew bags. They are doing very well with this skill and we look forward to seeing what the finished bags will look like!

In Computing Club, the children have been becoming more familiar with some of the different apps that we have available on the Ipads. They have also been enjoying using the camera on the Ipads to take photos, exploring some of the different effects and they also enjoy working together to use the interactive whiteboard to play a variety of games which support their Maths, Art and Phonics.

Our 2017 Ofsted inspection commented - that we still provide good quality education & a stimulating & caring environment. Individual needs are well met & children quickly grow in confidence. There is a positive culture for safeguarding & pupils said that they feel happy & settled in school.

"I am amazing. Together we are magnificent!"
