Our topic this half term has been 'Castles' and we have had so much fun with our learning.
In our writing we have looked at recipe books, the story 'The Bear and the Piano' and also 'On Sudden Hill'. The children have been practising how to write a 'High Five Sentence' which includes a capital letter, finger spaces, using their sounds, checking their work, and putting a piece of punctuation on the end of their sentence. We have looked at using the word 'and' to join to parts of a sentence together and also joining two words together to add more detail.
In our phonics learning, we have recapped our phase 3 sounds and have learnt phase 4 clusters and most recently, our phase 5 sounds!
In Maths we have spent lots of time adding and subtracting numbers, including solving word problems. Most recently we have looked at the numbers between 11 & 19 and looked in detail and what makes these numbers. E.g. 13 is ten and 3 more.
The children love our Science lessons and have learnt about materials and the season Autumn throughout the term. We even wrote a letter to Olaf from the film Frozen to explain what the season Autumn is like.
We learnt all about different types of castles and looked at how they have changed throughout time. We learnt about the key features of certain castles and we even had a go at designing our own for either a princess or a knight. The children loved designing and making bridges in DT and we used cardboard boxes to do this.
Our topic next half term is going to be Superheroes and we are very excited for our learning to continue!
Our 2017 Ofsted inspection commented - that we still provide good quality education & a stimulating & caring environment. Individual needs are well met & children quickly grow in confidence. There is a positive culture for safeguarding & pupils said that they feel happy & settled in school.
"I am amazing. Together we are magnificent!"
