Welcome to the Dahl Class Page.
Our Class Teacher is Mrs Maple.
Did you know we are called Dahl Class after the author Roald Dahl? We have really enjoyed reading some of his books in class including 'Fantastic Mr Fox', 'The Enormous Crocodile' and 'Esio Trot.'
This half term our topic is Superheroes. We have had to be superheroes to rescue innocent people after Elsa froze them! We had to predict where we think the best place would be to put the ice so that it would melt quickly. Some us decided to put them outside and others decided under the heater would be best. The ones under the heater melted the quickest. We then filmed a news report to tell others about our findings.
We have had a great time learning about Christmas and celebrating it in our classrooms. We started December with Decoration Day and made lots of lovely things which we have used to decorate our room. We then went to the Church and went on a Christmas journey. We learnt a lot about what Christians believe about Christmas and even got to make some sheep for the shepherd! We have also enjoyed Christmas Jumper day where we raised money for Save the Children.
In R.E. we have been learning about belonging. We have thought about the different groups we belong to and how this makes us feel. For example, we have thought about what it means to belong to Icknield School. We have identified how wearing our uniform and the Five Golden Rules are a sign that we belong to the school. We have also started to learn about what it means for someone to belong to Christianity and other religions. We are learning about the different signs and symbols of religions.
This half term is Engineers! We have learnt about the job of Engineers and thought about what we would do if we were an Engineer. Through D&T we have learnt about the structure of bridges and looked at three different types. In Art we have explored manipulating paper to create different structures and have tried to recreate some of the most famous pieces of engineering. Our topic in Science is Materials, we have used our Science lessons to explore different materials and have thought about what would be the best material to make a boat or bridge out of based upon the properties of the materials. We have been able to apply all our learning through the story The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have focused on the bridge and the different characters in the story. We are now experts on bridges!
Our 2017 Ofsted inspection commented - that we still provide good quality education & a stimulating & caring environment. Individual needs are well met & children quickly grow in confidence. There is a positive culture for safeguarding & pupils said that they feel happy & settled in school.
"I am amazing. Together we are magnificent!"
